Cat Health Insurance Eliminates Pain...For You and Your Cat!

By Sheri Davis Collins

Vet bills could be a major problem or not......

Cat health insurance provides affordable medical care which is a direct correlation to improved health.

Practicing wishful thinking that your cat will stay healthy throughout its entire life may not work. Additionally, situations beyond our control, like the pet food recall, may occur despite our best effort to care for our pets.

If your cat should get sick momentarily or as it gets older (just as some people do) the insurance is there to help you with the vet bills.

The cost of premiums may be lower than annual check ups and routine health care visits.

One of my cats had an emergency operation that cost $3000.  Believe me this amount was not in the budget!  In this instance, the costs of the premiums were far lower than the price to pay for his life and proper medical attention.

This certainly eliminated my pain by not having to consider euthanasia.  I was only worried about my cat, not the mounting vet bill.

Cat Health Insurance can address many issues, such as:

  • Care in an accident
  • Cancer treatments
  • Surgery
  • Pre existing cat medical problems
  • Annual checkups
  • Prescriptions
  • MRI
  • X-rays

Pet health insurance is one of the important considerations in responsible pet ownership.

Make an informed choice on cat health insurance and proper cat care.

Pet Health Insurance For Cats & Dogs

Are You Risking Your Cat’s Life?  Will Cat Health Insurance Help?
                                    Sheri Davis Collins

More than likely you’ve heard about pet insurance, and this is actually a type of insurance that is not just for dogs. You can also purchase cat health insurance to keep your cat protected. As your cats begin to age, you never know what kind of physical problems they may have, from illnesses to injuries. For this reason, there are many owners that have found cat health insurance an important expense. Insurance is extremely affordable and you need only pay a reasonable monthly fee. Also, animal health insurance proposes lower cost medical exams which is advantageous to physical well being.

Cats Have Lower Insurance Rates than Dogs

The great thing about having a cat is that they have lower insurance rates than dogs. If you start your cat in a health insurance plan while it is young, you’ll also save money. As long as it never has any serious illnesses the insurance rates will continue to be low. However, if it gets injured or becomes ill, you’ll have something to fall back on to help pay many bills.

Routine Checkups and More

As your cat continues to age the health insurance is going to come in handy. You’ll need to have routine checkups and there may be some other procedures needed along the way. Having cat health insurance will help you afford the checkups and preventive health care that your cat will need.

Making Your Cat’s Prescriptions Affordable

If you are a cat owner, one of the most expensive things to pay for can be its prescription drugs. Whether you cat needs a prescription after a procedure or due to an injury, it can really get quite expensive. As your cat gets older, it may need drugs to help with arthritis or other health conditions. These medications can get expensive and may cost more than $100 each month. However, if you have insurance for your cat the prescriptions may be covered by the insurance company.

Pure Bred Cats Really Benefit

If you have a pure bred cat, then you stand to really achieve significant benefits from having cat health insurance. You see, many pure bred cats, as well as dogs, have specific physical problems that occur later in their lives. This can get expensive as your cat grows older, so having the cat insurance can really save you money as you endeavor to care for your pure bred feline.

Being proactive rather than reactive will give you an edge.

It is important that you don’t wait until your cat gets injured or sick to begin thinking about health insurance. You can save a huge amount of money by insuring your cat now. Yes, you’ll be paying on a monthly basis, but the benefits of the insurance are enormous.

In summation, you may be risking your cat’s life if an unexpected sizable health expense surfaces and you are not prepared.

Yes, cat health insurance can make the difference between risking your cat’s life to euthanasia and being able to afford proper health care.

The Responsibilities of Owning A Cat

Cats can live on average 15 years so when someone decides to adopt a kitten or young cat it is a long-term commitment. Cats need more than just a home, food, water and the occasional cuddle.

Being responsible for the health and well being of your cat, the owner needs to understand the full scope of what a cat needs in order to be healthy and happy.

A cat is an expense that a new owner should understand before making the commitment. The initial vet visit will include an examination, vaccinations, and possibly altering the cat. All of this can run approximately $250.00

Cats require special equipment like someplace to sleep, a litter box for each cat, cat toys for entertainment and exercise, food dish and water dish, a cat carrier, cat grooming tools such as brushes and combs, cat climbing towers, scratching posts and a cat collar with ID tag.

To be healthy cats require a proper diet that is geared for its age and physical abilities. Incorrect food can lead to disease, bad teeth, diarrhea, urinary problems and finicky eating behavior. In addition to food, the cat needs daily fresh water in a clean water bowl. The owner needs to monitor the cat so that it does not gain too much weight or become underweight.

Longhaired cats will require grooming. They should be brushed at least 3 times a week to prevent fur matting and to reduce the occurrence of hairballs. A shorthaired cat should be brushed at least once a week.

You will need to trim the nails on your cat or he will use your furniture to do this. If you forget to trim the nails they can become caught in the carpet.

Cats can get parasites so paying attention for the presence of fleas and worms is important. A cat's ears should be checked regularly for ear mites.

Vet yearly exams and vaccinations are all a part of responsible cat ownership and the best way to maintain your cat's health.

A cat needs more than food, water and vet care - a cat needs you! A cat desires to be played with, to be cuddled and petted and spoiled. A cat likes to be spoken to and adored. A cat that is ignored is a cat that will develop behavior problems.

Along with cat ownership and the responsibility outlined above, a cat owner must be prepared for the cat to steal their way into your heart. Cats have definite personalities and can make themselves heard when it comes to likes and dislikes.

They will be vocal or affectionate when the occasion calls for it. Cat owners that take the time, money and invest them into the care and companionship that all cats need, are lucky because a cat will return ten-fold what it receives in companionship and affection.
